Library Closings in Philadelphia

Standard

Eleven libraries in Philadelphia are to close on 1 January 2009. The city council of Philadelphia passed a nonbinding resolution (12-5) urging Mayor Nutter to allow the libraries to stay open for another six months while they try to come up with alternatives, however, Mayor Nutter is not planning to delay the closings. There have been a number of Philadelphia Inquirer articles about the closings (read this).

For those who are within commuting distance: there will be a rally tomorrow, Saturday, December 6, 12:00 p.m. at the Central Library 1901 Vine Street, followed by a March to City Hall.
